Criminology & Forensics Course Overview:

The Diploma in Criminology & Forensics Psychology course provides you with a comprehensive and professional insight into both criminal behavior and the criminal mind. It is a fascinating course that will open new doors into the world of Crime Scene Investigation, Forensics, Criminology and Forensic Psychology.

The Criminology and Forensics course examines criminal behavior in depth examining the underlying causes in society, why some people commit crime and others don’t and how events and experiences can shape the type of adults we later become.

Students will quickly learn the skills of criminal profiling, using numerous case studies from real life crimes and investigations. From vandalism, and ant-social behavior, through to the most serious of crimes such as murder and terrorism, the course will show how psychology can help us identify the offender. Areas covered include Crime Detection and investigation, forensic investigation techniques, forensic science and dna, profiling and the criminal justice system. Three key areas are delivered by three highly qualified lecturer who specialise in the areas of ; Criminology, Forensic Investigation and Forensic Psychology.

Each section is delivered by qualified lecturers, who draw on their roles and experience working in these specialist areas. The Diploma in Criminology & Forensic Psychology course is based on the disciplines of sociology, criminology, social work, police force and the legal system.
 

Criminology & Forensics Psychology Course Aims :
The course provides you with:
• An understanding of contemporary theories of criminal behaviour
• Thorough grounding in forensic investigation techniques used by CSI Crime Scene Investigators e.g. DNA analysis.
• Exploration of criminal justice system in Ireland.
• Highly valued research and key transferable skills
• Knowledge and critical understanding of criminal behaviour and psychology for those wishing to work in criminal profiling, applied psychology and intervention.
• Planning treatment and supervision strategies for both victims and offenders

Award: Diploma in Criminology & Forensic Psychology: CMI
Criminology Component Level 5 Award : FETAC

Progression: Graduates of this programme can progress to a range of further study options in areas such as Law, Psychology, Forensics, Social Work, and/or Biological sciences. Students may pursue a career as a; forensic scientist, garda, psychologist, social-worker, lawyer, barrister, counselor and or, criminologist.

Cost & Duration
The Diploma in Criminology & Forensics Psychology course is a 14 week evening course which is held one evening per week. The total cost of the course is 1,350 which includes FETAC assessment fees.  There is a MON OR WEDS OR SAT Class option.
