Journalism Course Overview: 

The Journalism and Media Diploma course is designed for individuals wishing to pursue a career in written or broadcast journalism. Over the past few years, there has been a significant growth in media communications, which has led to an increase in demand for journalists to work in a range of state, semi-state, commercial and voluntary organisations.

The Journalism course will suit individuals with minimal experience in Journalism and also individuals working in Journalism, public relations, marketing communications or as information officers who wish to gain a broader appreciation of the principles and practice of journalism. Journalism has grown into an exciting and varied career and provides real opportunities for those who are self motivated and have a passion for language and media in all their forms. The course will provide you with the confidence, skills and ability to pursue a career in your chosen field.

This Journalism course has been developed to meet the needs of aspiring journalists who wish to build a career in journalism either in Ireland or the UK. The ICM, Institute of Commercial Management (UK) qualification is internationally recognised.
 

A recent survey indicated over 70% of students of this course now work in journalism or related area.
 

Aims & Objectives:

You will be able to:

• Explore the role of the media in modern society
• Research, gather, prepare and present news and information for publication.
• Utilise your investigative ability which is essential if you wish to be a good reporter.
• Write for publication from features to editorial to short stories.
• Research material so you can produce different types of feature articles e.g. human interest.
• Practice the principles of good editing, design and print production.
• Understand Broadcast journalism as it relates to TV and Radio.
• Prepare a script for a TV or Radio piece.

Progression: Graduates of this Journalism course can pursue a career with newspapers, periodicals, journals, magazines or work as a communications executive, information or press officer for a range of different organisations. In recent years the increase in the number of local radio stations throughout Ireland provides opportunities for you to present or research content for radio programmes. Those more interest in the TV side of things can pursue employment as; TV runners, directors, producers, researchers, even presenters to name but a few.
 

Course Eligibility
This course is open to people from any educational background and with various levels of experience. Good writing skills and a passion for journalism are advantageous. Fluent level of English is required. If you are anxious about your eligibility, please contact CMI and a representative will be more than happy to assist you in making the right choice.
 

Course Cost & Duration

The duration of the Journalism course is 20 weeks and is held in Dublin city centre once a week. The cost is 1,450 Euro and exam fees are 300 euro extra. Total cost is 1,750euro.
