Course overview The course provides an in-depth coverage of the core knowledge areas of the PMBOK® as described below. Week 1: PMI Exam Application (on-line) Our lectures will go through step by step the online application for the PMI exams. They will help students with the categorization of their exam. Students will also learn how to document and categorize their experience. The lecturers will explain the application submission guidelines and various options available to the students. Week 2: Project Fundamentals according to PMBOK The Body of Knowledge is a practical document defining the broad range of knowledge of project managers. This is the basis for the exam that students must undertake. Week 3: Project Framework This module will provide students with the framework essential to the management of projects and will help them to convey fundamental and important concepts. Week 4: Project Processes This module examines the various stages in a products life cycle from inception to closure and hand over. Week 5: Project Integration Management This module will teach students the fundamental importance of a project manager as an integrator. It will equip them with the knowledge and tools in order to ensure that a project is kept within its boundaries and also within the boundaries of the organisation and the external environment Week 6: Project Scope Management Scope is a fundamental aspect of project planning. This module aims to develop and use key constructs that enables project managers to strictly manage this important area Week 7: Project Time Management Time management is a central skill of a Project Manager. This module aims to teach students the process and techniques needed for successful time management which will enable them to completed projects on time. Week 8: Project Cost Management The completion of the project within its budget is a primary objective for a project manager. This module aims to help students to understand how and why costs occur, planning, estimating and managing project costs to ensure that a project meets budget constraints. The module also aims to teach students how to ensure that the project receives the necessary budget Week 9: Project Quality Management With customers expectation increasing, project manager now more than ever need to be sensitive to their customers expectations. This module will examine quality from a project perspective and will help students ensure that the expectations of not only the customer but also the key stakeholders are met. Week 10: Project Human Resource Management Project Managers are responsible for building a cohesive team from a group of individual specialists. Effective teamwork is generally at the heart of effective management process. This module helps students to become familiar with the process of forming a team as well as defining key roles and responsibilities of team members. It will also help students to identify the project’s labour and staff requirements, as well as dealing with staff disputes, health and welfare issues Week 11: Project communications Management Good communication is essential to a projects success. An effective project manager must communicate the status of the project to all the major stakeholders. This module will go over the various form of communication from written to oral as well as the various methods of communications such as paper electronic etc. It will also deal with how to manage formal meetings with stakeholders. Week 12: Project Risk Management Risks are present in every project, whatever the project size or business sector. Risks are also factors that may cause a project to fail. Risk management will cover the process of risk identification, assessment and allocation. Week 13: Project Procurement Management In today’s complex environment projects may rely on external products and service for completion. The aim of this module is to teach students to identify all potential acquisitions /transactions, develop a list of procurements, develop a structured approach for procurement management and identify all contract actions/requirements. Week 14: Exam Preparation This will prepare students for the exam, teaching the differences between the PMP and CAPM exams. The course cost is 1,650euro which is made payable to CMI. Exam fees are paid directly to PMI – Project Mgmt Institute and are extra. The fee is $405 for PMI members, $555 for non-members.
