About the Course

The Certificate in Journalism and Media is

 
designed for individuals who are interested in  
learning key journalistic skills. The course is  
suited to individuals who have no previous
experience but who wish to pursue a career in
written or broadcast journalism. No previous
experience is required, just a passion for
journalism and a willingness to gather news,
write stories and features articles, and learn
about the media. The course may appeal to
individuals such as public relations and
marketing executives, information or press
officers or anyone who seeks to acquire
journalist techniques to add to their existing
skills.
 
Course Aims & Objectives
The Certificate in Journalism and Media introduces students to the role of the media in
modern society and focuses on the skills required to research, prepare and present
news and information. The two core modules on this course include Sub Editing and
Freelance and Feature Writing. Both modules are assessed by examination and can
lead to a professional Diploma in Journalism & Media qualification. The aim of the
course is to develop your ability to research material and understand the principles that
lead to well written news and feature stories. The CMI has a number of experienced
qualified Journalist lecturers who have worked with RTE and the major national
newspapers. The course will provide you with unique insights into the journalism
profession. It is essential that those wishing to undertake the programme are able to

Methodology
The principle method of learning is through assignments, case studies, course notes, lectures and a project. You are expected to read recommended books to accelerate your learning.

Cost and duration
The cost of the Certificate in Journalism is 750 Euro which includes extensive course notes. The course is ten weeks in duration. Exam fees are 200 euro extra.
