Course Overview

The Child Psychology course (with Sand Play Therapy) (age 2- 16) is a fascinating study of the developmental stages of childhood from conception to Adolescence. 

 

 

This in-depth course in Child Psychology will provide you with an amazing insight into the cognitive, social and emotional development of children. It will help you understand the psychological situations that can affect how a child behaves. The child is studied in the context of his/her family, school and our larger society. A new section covering Sand Play Therapy will explore how the use of sand, water and miniature figures can help develop a child to deal with difficult situations. This is a growing area of child psychology development training and a must for students to explore.

 

 

Whether you are a parent yourself or work within the childcare profession this child psychology course will provide you with the range of skills and knowledge to help a child reach his or her maximum potential. This child psychology course is a must for people working with or planning to work with children, or anyone interested in the development of children such as parents, special needs assistants, Project workers, Teachers and Nurses and those in the caring professions. In completing the course you will be up to date on the practice of child psychology as well as gaining skills in new areas such as sand play therapy.

 

 

 

Course Aims

 Upon completion you will be able to:

3. Learn scientific methods in relation to a childs psychology
4. Factors influencing a child’s psychological development
5. Interpret social development
6. Assess school age children and their interaction with peers and family
7. Acquire methodology of sand play counselling
8. Assess impact of technology in an adolescent’s learning and development

Child Psychology Course Modules:

The fee for this programme is €980. The fee includes all tuition, registration, assessment and online notes.

Applicants are required to pay a minimum deposit of €300 to secure a place on the programme. The balance of fees are due on or before programme commencement.

Duration: 10 weeks part time, one evening per week 18.30-21.30

Start: Monday 6 February 2012; 18.30 - 21.30

 End:  April 2012

Dr Ian McCabe: H.Dip.Ed., Ph.D., Psy.D. PIPS:   Child Psychology & Addiction Lecturer

Ian is a Counselling & Clinical Psychologist, registered with the Psychological Society of Ireland and validated by the Dept. of Health & Children. He worked in the Haight Ashbury Alcohol Treatment Centre, San Francisco and the Fifth Avenue Counselling & Psychotherapy Centre, New York. Ian returned has worked for the HSE Drugs and AIDS Service for five years and was based in Addiction Response in Dublin. Ian's educational qualifications include a H. Dip.Ed.(Hons.) from TCD, a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from the Jesuit University of San Francisco, a Certificate in Drug & Alcohol Abuse Studies from UC Berkeley, a Doctorate in International Relations supervised by the London School of Economics and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. Currently he is a Diploma Candidate at the C.G. Jung Institute, Zurich and has completed 4 years training as a Child & Adolescent Analyst, specialising in sand play.
