Course Overview
The event management industry is a young and dynamic industry that has expanded rapidly in Ireland over the past few years giving rise to an ever increasing demand for professional event managers. This course is designed for individuals who are entirely new to the event industry and if you are seeking a comprehensive understanding of the event business in Ireland and abroad, then this course is for you.
The Event Management Diploma encompasses a strong Public Relations and Marketing module so students may learn the key skills necessary to successfully market and run PR campaigns in the lead-up to an event. Students are introduced to the fundamental aspects of organising an event from start to successful completion. The Event Management Diploma is an excellent course which allows you to continue with your studies for an additional 10 weeks in pursuit of the Advanced Diploma in Event Management. CMI offer practical work experience to enhance career opportunities.
Unlike standard Event Management courses offered in other colleges, this Event Management course leads to a recognised qualification under the National Framework of Qualifications to level 6 standard. Students receive an Event Management level 6 FETAC component award .
This Event Management Diploma course involves completing more modules to standard courses and is designed to be completed in a reasonable time which is a huge benefit. The event course covers 6 different Event modules which each take 10 weeks to complete. Each module is identified as reflecting best practice by the events industry. Students can progress to the more comprehensive Advanced Diploma after completing the initial 20 weeks or can enrol straightaway on the Advanced Diploma.
Past students have done very well. Many have started their own events business, others now work with Event Management companies, Hotels, Conference Management , Organise Outdoor Festivals, Wedding planners and have become Banqueting and catering managers.
Course Aims
The aims of the Event Management Diploma course is to provide you with the numerous skills you need to manage successful events. By learning how to plan, co-ordinate, implement and evaluate events, you will learn best industry practice. You will have the opportunity to put together your own event project/plan which will allow you to manage the concept and idea through to the proposal and implementation of the event.
To help you on your way in the Event Management course, over 10 event case examples will be explored from Concerts, Festivals and Outdoor events to Indoor Events such as Private Functions, Conferences, Weddings, Corporate events and Product Launches.
Different approaches to promoting an event using Marketing & PR techniques will be explored. You will put together a basic risk audit, quality assurance statements (to include insurance) and evaluation of an event from start to finish and post the event. You will also acquire Knowledge of event operations including managing volunteers and staff, Organisation and production of a range of indoor and outdoor events including festivals, weddings, personal events, trade exhibitions and conferences. This course or the Advanced diploma is a must for anyone serious about entering the event industry.

Distance Learning Option
Students can complete the Diploma in Event Management course by distance learning over 20 weeks. The cost of the distance learning course is 980Euro which includes course book, course notes and sample assignments. Fees must be paid in full in advance of commencement.

Classroom Learning
The fee for this programme is €1,350. The fee includes all tuition, registration, assessment and online notes.
Applicants are required to pay a minimum deposit of €300 to secure a place on the programme. The balance of fees are due on or before programme commencement. Applicants that are unemployed or work part-time may avail of a two part installment plan. Terms & Conditions apply.

Fiona Mullin: Event Management Lecturer
Fiona currently works as Head of Event Sales for a prestigious 5 star Hotel Resort outside Dublin. She ran the Event Sales team for 8 years and has organized various types of events. Fiona has worked in the Hospitality industry in Ireland for over 15 years. She has completed 2 degrees 1 in Hotel and Catering Management and 1 in Business Tourism and also has a Masters in Strategic Hospitality Management.
Caroline Laura Stephens
Caroline Stephens lectures in PR, Communications and Events at the CMI. She runs her own Communications company. Caroline was previously Head of Dell’s Consumer Public Relations Division for Europe, and managed their Small Business Communications programme for the region. With over 15 years experience with the multinational in the technology arena, Caroline held a wide variety of management roles with responsibility for European, UK and Irish programmes, which also included agency management for events and PR. In addition, large scale events planning such as major European product launches to media, as well as event planning responsibility for all Michael Dell visits to the country, were under her remit. Caroline’s experience also covers the public sector, internal communications and the corporate sector . She has extensive media training experience.
Jill Gibson: Public Relations and Event Management Lecturer
Jill has an in depth knowledge of the event management business and has vast experience in planning, production and execution of large and small scale events Jill now runs her own business in Dublin. Her Event Company specialises in bespoke event management and offers a complete professional service to the highest standard for clients. For past three years, Jill lectures on the Event Management and Public Relations for CMI. She has Diploma in Public relations and has over 20 years experience in Dublin’s top PR consultancies and event companies
Progression
Successful graduates will hold the title Dip.EM after their name. Students can progress on to complete the Advanced Diploma in Event Management or pursue a Degree in Business, Project & Event management.
