European Training Grants

EGF Training Grants pay fees for approved courses in private education and training companies. Approved courses lead to recognised qualifications that are relevant to pursuing employment in sectors where there are reasonable chances of getting a job or evidence of skills shortages.

In general, approved courses fall into two categories:

  • courses recognised and accredited by the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC); and,
  • courses recognised and accredited by the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC).

The maximum EGF Training Grant in the case of courses accredited by FETAC is €3,000. In the case of courses accredited by HETAC the maximum grant is €5,000. In all cases the grant is made payable to the institute, college, or company providing the training course. Before you can apply for an EGF Training Grant you will need to identify an approved training course that can be completed before Friday 8th June 2012.

Funding for the Unemployed

If you are currently unemployed, there are  two main bodies which provide funding/ assistance to the unemployed in Ireland; The Department of Social Welfare and FAS - Ireland's National Training and Employment Authority

Some of the students enrolling on CMI courses currently receive funding either from the Department of Social Welfare or FAS provided they meet certain criteria. The funding amount from Social Welfare or FAS can vary depending on the cost of the course . There is no guarantee that you will get funding and each applicant is reviewed directly with the appropriate person in these organisations. Should you be approved for funding, an employment officer  will then contact CMI and make arrangements for payment.

If you are unemployed and in receipt of social welfare payments it is advised that you firstly contact your local Social welfare office and set up a meeting with the local employment officer to discuss training and funding options. There is no guarantee however you will receive funding from Social welfare.

However, Social Welfare may offer you the Part-Time Education Option (PTEO) which allows you to keep your Jobseeker's Allowance or Jobseeker's Benefit and attend a part-time  course of education or training. Your local employmrent officer will be able to advise you of the terms and eligibility for the PTEO.

If you have no success with the Social Welfare then FAS may have a solution for you. In the case of FAS, the Local Employment Services operates through a network of Offices and outreach centres in 50 designated areas throughout Ireland. You must contact your local FAS Employment Services Officer to request that you wish to do a course at CMI. Eligible candidates must meet certain criteria as laid down by FAS. Please click here to find your local FAS Employment Service Office CMI are registered and quality approved by FAS (FAS id 903493)
