Journalism & Media Diploma

Course Overview

The Journalism and Media Diploma course is designed for newcomers to this exciting profession. This Journalism course will appeal to those seeking an understanding of the principles and practice of journalism and its craft. The course will suit individuals with no previous experience in Journalism and will also appeal to individuals working in Journalism, public relations, marketing communications or as information officers who wish to gain a broader appreciation of the principles and practice of journalism.

Unlike standard journalism courses, this course is unique and offers double accreditation. You will develop your investigative ability which is essential if you wish to be a good reporter. You will also learn how to research feature material so that you can produce excellent writing material for publication. There will be opportunities to write features, human interest stories, reviews as well as improve your own writing style, which is essential.  Feedback on your writing will be provided by experienced journalists and sub-editors.

The principles of good editing, design and print production will be explored. The different types of law relevant to media specifically in Ireland and the UK will be examined as well as areas such as defamation.
