- What is difference between CAPM and PMP test and course?
PMP is a higher level certification which enjoys a high reputation and acceptance over any other certification PMI offers. PMP is meant for people who already have at least 3-4 years of real project management experience and know what it takes to be a project manager in a real world setting.
PMI's exam strategy around PMP is more lengthy, complex and longer than the CAPM examination.. PMP exam takes 4 hours to complete in which you have to answer 1-4 questions correct out of 200 in order to qualify yourself as PMP. CAPP has 150 questions from which you have to answer 92 questions correctly in a 3 hour examination. PMP examination tests every possible scenario keeping in mind that the students has to face all those scenarios in real-life work situations. CAPM exam does test all the knowledge areas but keeps focus on sections from PMBOK more heavily than the real-life scenarios.
3. What is the next step after PMP?
Upon course completion, it is recommended students pursue further PMI qualifications with CMI, or the Advanced Diploma in Project Management.
4. Is there any other option other than classroom learning?
The CAPM® Certified Associate Project Management course is also offered by CMI through distance learning as well as through traditional classroom learning. Rather than attend classes, students with no project management experience can now complete the CAPM course online through CMI and get up to 36 PDU’s.(Professional Development units) which is required to maintain membership of PMI.
5. Who is PMI?
Founded in 1969, PMI® Project Management Institute is the world’s leading not-for-profit project management professional association, with over 270,000 members in more than 170 countries. PMI ® provides global leadership in the development of professional standards, certifications, research, publications, education and training in the project management field.
6. What is CMI’s affiliation?
CMI, Communications & Management Institute is a PMI® Registered Education Provider (R.E.P.), Provider No. 2788 and is authorised to deliver PMI courses. CMI is also registered as a quality education provider by FETAC – Further Education Training and Awards Council and is registered with the Department of Education offering courses recognised under the NFQ, National Framework of Qualifications.
The PMI course through CMI, will help you achieve international Project Management professional (PMP®) or a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) status within 6 months. Students who complete all assignments on this 14 week course will also receive a nationally recognised LEVEL 6 FETAC AWARD.
What are the Progression routes?

A much better idea to the PMP course over 14 weeks with CMI rather than do a bootcamp course over a week or 2. Friends of mine did the bootcamp option and failed the PMP tests. They ended up wasting their time and money. I have no regrets and would strongly recommed this course to my friends over any other PMP course out there. The lecturer Bernard really does know his stuff and couldnt have been more helpful.

Julie Doyle - Project Management Course
I signed up for the Project Management course with CMI as I was unemployed at the time. I noted that many job specs listed a project management role as a requirement. I found the course to be very comprehensive and informative. It provided a good insight into the highs and lows of managing projects across a broad range of disciplines. Having successfully completed the course at CMI, I have recently gained employment. Completing the course was a contributory factor to getting the job and I do feel that the qualification attained has been of enormous benefit to me. It has equipped me with an understanding of the various roles and responsibilities that come with managing a project. I feel that this knowledge will not only continue to help me in my current role, working as part of a busy team, but has also provided me with a strong skill-set that can be utilised across any industry. Successful completion of this course does require a lot of hard work and dedication !! It is worth it to attain the qualification and multi-disciplinary skills.
