    Fashion Buying and Merchandising Courses Certificate

    In this Fashion buying course, you will learn every aspect of the fashion buying and merchandising process from start to finish. Ideal for newcomers to fashion buying or for those with experience wishing to move into this exciting area.

    You will learn the importance of observing the latest trends, to choosing the right product line, to arranging continuity of supply for that season, to final product decision making. 

    The role of a fashion buyer is one of the most sought after careers in fashion and requires a combination of skills . In this demanding role you’ll need to be constantly trend spotting, have a strong business sense and be a great communicator.  Trend forecasting and brand discovery is a key skillset of the role and decisions which mix of brands to buy and being on the lookout for new brands, designers and trends. Quantitative and analytical skills are required for budgets and processing orders and keeping track of inventory. Planning and working with merchandisers will help you plan and make the right buying decisions. Sourcing fabric and materials for brands is another key aspect of the job where you could be responsible for sourcing fabric and materials for brands.

    This 3 month Fashion Buying and Merchandising course is a Level 5 Minor Award 5N1445 awarded by QQI Quality & Qualifications Ireland




    A collection of work throughout the course, assignments and developing a fashion range, that will consist of at least 10 pieces, will demonstrate your creativity and flair.  You will learn about monitoring upcoming trends and will engage in fashion trend forecasting to ensure that the season's collections match with customer expectations.  


    Completing all assessments on this course, leads to a QQI level 5 Award in Fashion Buying & Merchandising and further opportunities to progress to a Major Award.

    Your place on the course is confirmed within 2-3 days of receipt of online booking/payment.

    Online Bookings and payments are subject to CMI Terms & Conditions.

    Sponsorship: Students must still pay a deposit of 300 euro to secure their place irrespective of whether they are being sponsored by an employer or other body. 

    Once payment is received in full for the course by the sponsor, the student will receive a 300euro deposit refund.

Carly McQuaid

Carly is creative and passionate about fashion buying and merchandising. She has over 10 years’ experience within the retail and fashion industry in Dublin and New York designing and fashion buying for Primark and purchase planning for Bulgari LVMH. She holds a BA honours degree in fashion design from Limerick School of Art and Design and a Level 6 QQI qualification in Montessori. Carly lectures with CMI on the Fashion Buying and Merchandising course.
