Registering for the PMP course exam

CMI will provide a Certificate of attendance for the minimum 42 contact hours of instruction that addresses the learning objectives on the PMP course in project management. You can become a student member of PMI prior to registering for the exam which will save you on exam fees. This will also allow you to receive a free electronic edition of PMBOK 7th or 8th Edition. The PMI approved online course work  must be completed at the time of taking your examination.

You are granted a period of time in which to pass the examination. During the eligibility period, you may take the examination up to three times should you fail. The good news is CMI students consistently achieve a 92% pass rate.

PMP ® eligibility criteria

  • Secondary degree (high school diploma, ordinary degree or the global equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years/ 60 months unique non-overlapping PM experience
  • 35 contact hours of project management education OR active CAPM holder

OR

  • Four-year degree (Bachelors degree or equivalent)
  • Minimum 3 years/ 36 months unique non-overlapping PM experience
  • 35 contact hours of project management education OR active CAPM holder
  • All project management experience must have been accrued within the last eight consecutive years prior to your application submission.

I work as a junior Project Manager, so some of the principles I understood but i had to relearn some of the terminology this pmp course online provides. I found the course well structured and it was focused on ensuring I acquired better ways of managing projects. I have since passed this pmp certification course and got the PMP credential. I have to keep up my CPD to retain it and CMI kindly gave me a 32 hour CPD certificate to help with that.

Yes both the PMP and the CAPM Project management courses from Ireland, will qualify you to become a project manager. When you qualify as a PMP Certified professional then you will be eligible for senior project manager roles, team leader or assistant project management positions. If you pass the entry level CAPM online project management course, then you are eligible for a junior role as a project administrator or project coordinator

Salary levels for project managers in Ireland reflect the role and experience and roles are typically paid +/- 10% of below figures: 

Director of project management: €145,000

Portfolio manager: €140,000

Program manager: €127,100

Senior project manager: €104,770

Project Manager  : €65,000 – €75,000

Construction Project Managers : €75,000

If you are not eligible for the PMP course, the CAPM® – Certified Associate Project Management course offered by CMI is open to people from all backgrounds.

In Ireland, the demand for project managers is continuing to grow as the sectors most in need of project managers also grow such as Pharmaceutical, Software, Engineering and Construction sectors.

An official PMI study reported that by 2027 the demand for project managers would grow so much that employers will need 87.7 million individuals in this profession. And if you have the necessary skills and qualification, you must consider going down this career path.

Construction and infrastructure

Construction and infrastructure project managers are in big demand . Knowledge of construction principles, building legislation and legal requirements is necessary for this field .

Engineering

The field of engineering provides opportunities for project managers who have experience with blueprints and mechanical drawing and CAD and BIM is a plus. Civil engineering is in big demand on public infrastructure projects.

Technology

Projects are delivered quickly in the software development business. Software developers must have a background in writing code and can easily become project managers/ team leaders to manage teams of software developers. In short, Yes the PMBOK 7th Edition (2021) is fine and it relates to the current ECO Exam content outline, 2021. Please note the PMBOK® – Seventh Edition  is a reference but is not a test-preparation tool. The PMBOK® Guide Seventh Edition encourages project managers to use predictive, hybrid and adaptive, or agile, approaches. It is not designed to replace the PMP Exam preparation course but is a reference only.

Important Note:

The PMBOK® Guide – Eighth Edition was released in 2025, and the new PMP® Exam Content Outline (ECO) 2026 will be implemented from July 2026. As a result, all PMP® exam content and test questions will transition to the new ECO from that date onward.

This means that current PMP® candidates must complete the existing PMP® exam before the end of June 2026.

The new PMP® Exam Preparation Course, aligned with the July 2026 ECO, will be introduced for all new PMP® exam preparation courses starting from May/June 2026 onward.

It is an internationally recognized certification offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI) through Providers such as CMI.

Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)® : CAPM® certification demonstrates your understanding of the fundamental knowledge, terminology, and processes of effective project management.

Degree: You can do BSc degree in Business Management with Project management from any number of undergraduate and graduate education programs.

Agile/Scrum: Organizations, such as the Scrum Alliance or PMI, offer training and certification in these newer project management practices.

PRINCE2® (Projects In Controlled Environments) is a broadly used method in project management widely used. PRINCE2® certification courses will allow individuals to clearly understand the roles and responsibilities of an effective project manager
