20 May 2016 – Zdenek Kompanek receives CMI outstanding achievement award

A CMI student that studied with CMI for 3 years, faced all the challenges and takes time out to talk to CMI about his current role, and his hopes for the future.

Zdenek with an air of quiet confidence holds his outstanding achievement award, ‘it has been four years , a lot of hard work, but well worth the wait and perseverance. the CIPS course with CMI really helped me better understand myself – it also helped me see a much bigger picture of the business as a whole, how to manage my time, stress level and to balance life/work/studying. It led me to a deeper knowledge of the Procurement and Supply Chain function.’

The knowledge gained completing the three year CIPS Professional level 8 diploma has helped Zdenek enormously in his daily work tasks. According to Zdenek,’ My current role is flexible and I am working cross-functionally with many internal and external stakeholders. The CIPS qualification helped me to build very strong relationships across the business with suppliers, customers and of course all internal  / external departments. Having strong collaborative relationships is vital and helps me to achieve the best possible results.’

The Challenges

Zdenek started the CIPS qualification in 2012 and was not sure if he would be able to complete the full suite of CIPS qualifications from Diploma to Advanced Diploma to Professional Graduate Diploma.

The course had its challenges though, ‘I have to honestly say that to complete the CIPS Professional level 8 qualification was not an easy one and is a lot of hard work, but upon completion the feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment is beyond words.’

‘English is my third language and I’m a non-native English speaker. The challenge of 15 written exams to achieve the Professional diploma seemed a lot until you break it into 5 units per year. It is a lot of exams, a lot of days of preparation, and a lot of time and effort. After year one, I made the decision to complete the three levels of CIPS qualifications in full. I felt I had gained enough confidence after year 1 to progress further.’

Hopes for the future

‘It is onward and upwards as I plan to complete a 2 year part time MBA in Business Development from October 2016.  I would like to take this  opportunity to say a big thank you to my family, friends, my employer (Keelings Logistics Solutions) for the great support they have given me in the past 4 years. A biggest thank you to my wife Katerina who supported me during my studies.  I would like to recommend CIPS Qualifications to all professionals working in the Procurement & Supply sector. CMI College is a very supportive and professional institution and provides an excellent personal service and offers CIPS Qualification throughout the Republic of Ireland.
